     herbaceous borders in England

Autumn Border & House
The eight acres of landscaped ornamental gardens at Waterperry have inspired and delighted countless gardeners for more than seventy-five years. It’s the perfect place for inspiration, whether you’re a complete novice or a professional – there are design ideas by the bucketful! Our formal and rose gardens, river walk, lily canal and classical herbaceous border are just a few highlights of a trip to Waterperry, and there’s always something new to see – whatever the season!

May Wisteria
While the gardens provide an oasis of calm and beauty, the Waterperry Gallery and Long Barn are a shopper’s delight, featuring beautiful, affordable works of art in the Gallery, and inspirational outdoor living ideas and gifts in the Long Barn. And our garden shop offers a wide range of gardening goods and sundries, as well as gift ideas for the green – and not so green-fingered, and our Waterperry grown and pressed apples and juice.

Formal Mist
We take huge pride in growing most of the plants we sell at Waterperry in our on-site nurseries, so you can be sure of their pedigree. We know the plants intimately, and friendly, knowledgeable staff are always available to provide advice, information and ideas. You’ll also find a huge range of apples and juice for sale in season – all grown in our 5 acres of apple and pear orchards.

Waterperry also boasts a Country Life Museum, featuring agricultural and horticultural implements from a bygone era, and a beautiful Saxon Church which still contains its original 13th century stained glass windows, and lancets. Both attractions are free and are a must-see during your visit.

River Walk Spring
We also have a full programme of events throughout the year, from horticultural themed weekends like Snowdrop and Apple Weekends, to open air theatre during the height of the summer in the stunning setting of our ornamental garden. And Art in Action is a particular highlight. Every July 250 artists descend on Waterperry to demonstrate their craft during the four-day event reckoned to be the best of it’s kind in Europe.

But no visit to Waterperry is complete without a trip to the Pear Tree Teashop. Our staff pride themselves in cooking everything from fresh ingredients, and offer a mouth-watering selection of home-made hot and cold meals. We’re also home to some of the best fresh-baked cakes in the country, and provide a perfect way to end any visit to Waterperry.
